The Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Project of Salinas is a Community Collaborative building strong, nuturing families, and inspiring a commitment to education and creating safe neighborhoods.

The focus of the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Project is to build resiliency in the identified "at-risk" families in the Alisal Union School District.

Several methods are used to accomplish this:

1) "At-risk" youth are identified by teachers and school counselors.

2) School sites become Extended Day and evening community centers, where "at-risk" families are recruited to participate in a variety of pro-social activities and programs.

3)"At-risk" youth are recruited into Extended Day Programs which provide activities such as: Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Boys and Girls Club Programs, Parks and Recreation sports and many other pro-social activities. Parents are recruited to help with the facilitation of program activities.

"The key is quality-time in small non-threatening groups or one-on-one."

-Devorah Duncan

4) Free services for parents include English and parenting classes, counseling, and other social services. All services always include free child care.
