30.1 Conduct targeted outreach to women out of the mainstream, to include younger women, older first time mothers, lesbians, field workers, battered women and women with strong beliefs in alternative health care.
30.2 Educate women about breast cancer by:
Providing culturally sensitive videos and educational materials covering symptoms, screening and treatment Involving community leaders and breast cancer survivors to raise awareness to breast cancer issues Ensuring that written information is explained
30.3 Provide breast self exam instructions for all ages, in appropriate languages, including mammogram frequency guidelines. Attempt to reduce fears by stressing importance of screening, rescreening and follow-up.
30.4 Conduct outreach by:
Utilizing simple, lively, media advertisements Distributing flyers at churches and schools Participating in community events Encouraging and training individuals from diverse populations to do recruitment and referral from within their own community
30.5 Provide assistance with translation and materials in multiple languages. Offer support for community centers to accomplish community health promotion.
