The Family Development Matrix (FDM) project provides an integrated family assessment tool for case management and outcomes evaluation in county-based service networks and tribal programs in California. Its primary purpose is to provide family support staff the capacity to utilize the FDM as an assessment with client families, identify strengths, issues of concern. Then track the effectiveness of interventions, case management and family participation that contribute to reaching family goals. Additionally the project utilizes the Pathway to the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect from Harvard University and Children’s Protective Factors to assist agencies in developing an intervention strategy integrated with the FDM case management system.
The Institute for Community Collaborative Studies, with our partner Strategies, is funded by the Office of Child Abuse Prevention, Department of Social Services to create public/private partnerships with family resource agencies in California to use the FDM for Differential Response referral and services with at-risk families. Each collaborative implements a prevention plan. It includes a family support strategy and FDM case management protocol. We provide access to a database for family assessments, case management, family outcomes with tables and graphs for reports.
