"We take an integrative, multidisciplinary and dynamic approach to teaching and learning."

HHSPP programs integrate the knowledge and skills of the respective fields of public health and social work, at the undergraduate level (CHHS program), and public policy and related interdisciplinary fields, at the graduate level (MPP program), with collaborative leadership, conflict resolution & negotiation, cross cultural competence, professional ethics, and use of technology to create “real world,” cutting-edge learning opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community professionals.

Bachelors Programs

Collaborative Health and Human Services (CHHS)
The CHHS degree program prepares graduates for successful careers as 21st century health and human service professionals working in integrated delivery systems. Undergraduate students interested in working in the “helping professions” such as community-based public health, social work, counseling and public safety, will have an exciting opportunity to obtain the essential knowledge and skills in public health and social work through a curriculum that includes cross-training in management sciences, collaborative leadership, professional ethics, cross cultural competence, and use of technology.

A graduate of the CHHS program is prepared for employment in any public, private or non-profit health and human service agency at the local, state or federal level. The program is proud to serve students who are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities. Graduates are also very well prepared to apply to graduate programs in public health (MPH), social work (MSW), public policy (MPP), public management (MPA) or further training in public safety.

Masters Programs

Master of Public Policy (MPP)
In collaboration with the Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute, the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program was developed to serve a variety of students including working professionals from the public, private, and non-profit sectors who are interested in graduate level training in comparative policy analysis, issue advocacy, and strategic planning. The MPP program is aimed at individuals who are committed to gaining the skills necessary to assist them in addressing vital public policy issues at the local, regional, state, national and international levels.

The MPP curriculum includes rigorous public policy coursework that threads the essential skills and understanding of community empowerment, cross cultural competence, social justice advocacy, and use of technology throughout an interdisciplinary professional program. This small innovative program focuses on local community needs and collaborative actions to improve the conditions of society through the public nonprofit and private sectors. The MPP program prepares graduates for work in government, industry, and community-based organizations.

Minor Degree Programs

Environmental Health Policy Minor (EHP)
The Environmental Health Policy minor degree program provides students with an opportunity to address their interests in environmental health policy issues on a local, state, or national level. The curriculum includes learning experiences in the areas of environmental health, community health, policy analysis, health assessment and health education. Students interested in a career with local and state environmental health agencies, and community-based environmental health advocacy groups working to improve environmental conditions and community health through program development, policy change, and advocacy, will find this minor degree program to be an important asset to their major course of study at CSUMB.

International Health Policy Minor (IHP)
The International Health Policy minor provides students with an opportunity to address their interests in global health policy and program development. The curriculum includes learning experiences in the areas of international policy and politics, economics, public health, and international women’s health and social issues. Students interested in working on global health issues at organizations such as the United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Peace Corps, and other nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that work to improve the health status of citizens globally, will find this minor degree program to be an exciting asset to their major course of study at CSUMB.

Social Work (SW)
The Social Work Minor will provide students who are majoring in something other than Collaborative Health and Human Services (CHHS) with beginning knowledge and skills in social work practice, a solid foundation in professional ethics, and an understanding of human behavior from a number of disciplinary perspectives. Although not required for the minor, students may also select additional coursework in advanced social work practice and health & social policy, for which the minor will prepare them.
