MLO
Definition - A Major Learning
Outcome (MLO) is a learning requirement which
students are expected to know. There are a total
of 13 MLOs, and each student must know and understand
all in order to graduate.
MLO
Description - a general statement
of what a student is expected to know and be able
to do in each MLO area.
Competencies-
These are the knowledge, skills and abilities developed
by the student through a variety of learning experiences
including in-class, field-based, and research activities.
Courses
- Learning experiences that provide students
with academic training in developing the
competencies in each MLO area. These include
CHHS core courses, and other CSUMB core competency
courses. These can be in-class, online, or
both.
Field Sites
- Learning experiences in public agencies and non-profit organizations in
the tri-county region that have been approved to accept student interns. Fieldsites
provide students with an opportunity to develop
competencies in an applied setting. Each site
provides an active mentor and opportunities for
skill development, networking, and career exploration.
Assessment
- There are a variety of methods
for
students to demonstrate their achieved competency
in each MLO. Students are evaluated by their advisors, course instructors, field mentors, and portfolio reviewers to determine their achieved levels of competency in each MLO. Students can also be evaluated for demonstrated competency in selected MLOs and receive credit for "prior learning".
