Financial Management
Demonstrate the ability to understand the budgeting process and the financial management of public agencies and non-profit organizations.

Core Competencies:

Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between funding sources, i.e., governmental, private pay and fundraising/donations, and budget implications for types of organizations including public agencies and nonprofit CBOs, and their programs and services.

Skills: Demonstrate the ability to develop and present a basic operational budget in conjunction with a scope of work; and describe how and where to get information for fundraising.

Attitudes: Demonstrate an understanding of the politics of scarce resources as a balance of resource allocation and effective service delivery.

Supporting Competencies:

Knowledge:

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the grant writing process and developing a basic grant application in response to a Request for Proposal (RFP)
  • Ability to read and explain the various components of a financial statement
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of resource development and cultivation of community support

Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate skills in prioritizing organization and delivery of services, considering budget constraints and resource scarcity

Attitudes:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the politics of allocation of scarce resources
